A Spirit Born from a Fermentation Scientist’s Lifelong Dream

Mr. Oh, the master behind the taste of OORO, holds a Ph.D. in Fermentation Engineering from Osaka University and has spent many years conducting in-depth research in the field of fermentation.

Every OORO product is crafted using his extensive expertise, guided by the belief that truly delicious liquor begins with the right microorganisms (yeast).
Driven by his lifelong dream of creating exceptional spirits, his dedication and deep scientific understanding have become the foundation of OORO’s unmatched flavor and quality—an achievement that cannot be easily replicated.

OORO takes its name from a Korean dialect word, which means ‘upward’ or ‘toward higher ground’. In old villages, people would say ‘go ooro’ when climbing a hill or heading toward the mountain. It wasn’t just about direction. It carried a quiet hope for rising, growing, and becoming something more.

OORO is also rooted in Korea’s founding myth. It tells the story of a tiger and a bear who longed to become human. Through patience and perseverance, one succeeded and gave birth to Dangun, the legendary founder of Korea.
The story ends with a guiding ideal: “Benefit All Humankind”

This spirit of rising, not just for oneself but for others, is woven into every drop we make.

The tiger and bear on our packaging are more than symbols. They carry the journey of transformation, the stillness of waiting, and the strength of intention. From instinct to wisdom, from earth to sky, from past to present.

OORO always looks upward.
